Priya Kumari, a resident of the intervention village Ankuri in Mahabalipur, Paliganj, faced severe hardships after the death of her father, Niraj Kumar Singh, who was a labourer. Her father passed away due to liver and kidney damage from prolonged treatment, leaving the family in financial and emotional distress. This tragic loss forced Priya to consider dropping out of school to support her family, as they struggled to meet basic needs like food, shelter, and education. During a visit by the Bachpan Project staff, Priya was introduced by a village elder, and Mr Jogindra visited her home to assess the family’s situation. Priya shared the challenges they were facing, including food insecurity, lack of educational resources, and severe financial difficulties.

In response, the Bachpan Project provided holistic support to Priya and her family. The project ensured that Priya’s education continued uninterrupted by supplying her with educational kits, including a school bag and essential learning materials. To address the family’s nutritional struggles, dry ration packages were distributed to ensure they had enough food. Additionally, the project assisted Priya’s mother in securing a widow’s pension by helping her process necessary documents, easing some of the financial burdens. Furthermore, the staff helped open a joint bank account and assisted in obtaining critical documents like income and birth certificates, allowing the family to access government welfare schemes and benefit from the sponsorship program.

The Bachpan Project’s support has empowered Priya and her family to overcome extreme hardship. The educational, nutritional, and financial assistance has greatly improved their quality of life and strengthened their resilience. Priya and her family are deeply grateful for the support and encouragement provided by the BJUP team, which has enabled them to face their challenges with renewed hope for the future.
